One family was so excited when a little boy came into their life. Little Colton Faint was a happy 8-month-old. He weighed just 11 pounds, though, so the family decided to take him to the doctor to see why he wasn’t gaining weight, according to his aunt, Shauna Broome.
“My sister is a mess,” Broome said. “This is just not what she expected.”
Colton received a fatal diagnosis of Gaucher Disease, Type 2. According to the National Gaucher Disease website:
Gaucher disease type 2 (also called acute infantile neuronopathic Gaucher disease) has the earliest onset of all Gaucher disease types. Symptoms first become apparent within the first 3 to 6 months of life. It is fatal, usually causing death before 2 years of age.
“Gaucher disease type 2 signs and symptoms include early onset brain damage that is severe and rapidly worsening. Other signs include:
Spasticity (jerking movements)
Poor ability to suck and swallow
Enlarged liver and spleen
Due to their shortened lifespan, babies with Gaucher disease type 2 do not survive long enough to develop other typical Gaucher disease symptoms like bone involvement. Some can be stillborn or have severe skin abnormalities.”
Shauna wrote on the family gofundme page:
“It is heartbreaking knowing the outcome of this disease will eventually be fatal for my nephew. We’re hoping we can help the Faint family out financially and ease Colton’s symptoms with the enzymes treatment.
Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you can for Colton.
Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing a child suffer especially at such a young age.”
Please pray, or donate here.
